7:00 p.m. “L’Dor Vador: Ethical Wills And How To Share With Our Family And Friends What We’ve Learned About Life” will be the topic of Shabbat services, led by Rabbi Rachlis and Cantor Braier.  The tradition of ethical wills goes back to Biblical times and it’s a wonderful gift to give to our children, grandchildren, family and friends while we are still alive.  Over centuries, Jews have written ethical wills of just a few pages, at different stages of their lives, often updating them at the time of a simcha or loss.  These wills reflect our growing experiences and knowledge of life, the lessons we’ve learned, and the legacy that we want to leave behind.

An “Ethical Will” is not a property will, but rather a moral autobiography, a reflection on the life that we are living and our hopes and dreams for the future.  Rabbi Rachlis will share the ethical will that he wrote for his children, he will hand out samples of other ethical wills, and he’ll describe what issues we should focus on.
